7 December 2009
After a number of years as "an informal group that rides together" the growth in rider numbers and increase in events has necessitated some changes which will take effect from 1 January 2010.
A group of Shakespokes regulars met and considered a number of options over the past few months - the primary issues were to form an entity that would be able to take forward the Stratford Cycling initiative (for which some grant funding has been obtained from Stratford Town Trust) and to provide insurance cover for ride events.
The decision was made at meeting on 24 November 2009 to form Shakespokes as an "association" (or club) affiliated to the Cyclists Touring Club (CTC) - this being the simplest solution to meet the objectives - it was also the most economical route.
On a day-to-day basis there is not expected to little change - riders will be members of Shakespokes either on an annual membership basis (initially £10 for the year from 1 January - 31 December) or be temporary members on a ride-by-ride basis (at a rate of £0.50 per ride). The voluntary donation per ride of £0.50 per person will not be collected - having been replaced by the annual or per ride fees. The one difference that will be apparent will be the recording of names of riders at events.
The initial Shakespokes Officers and Committee are :
Chairman : Rob Gullen
Secretary : Peter Burgess
Treasurer : Tony Beysens
Committee : The Officers and Jill Colbourne & Andy List
A formal constitution has been prepared and is (in draft) on the website - setting out the general aims and objectives together with procedures etc.
An application has been made to CTC for Shakespokes to become an "affiliated club" - that affiliation has the benefits of insurance and also enables (annual) members of Shakespokes to become individual members of CTC at reduced cost (with some limitations in member benefits). Individual membership of CTC is not compulsory. |
